about the area

The North Norfolk Coast is an area of outstanding natural beauty.
For birdwatchers and walkers alike there is Blakeney Point which can be reached by parking at Cley and walking to the point. Summer is home and a nesting place for terns. Good for passage migrants including many scarce and rare species. The point can also be reached by boat from Morston which does seal trips and a crab supper in the bargain.
Brancaster Staithe has 4 miles of tidal foreshore and salt marsh superb for bird watching.
Cley Marshes has excellent birdwatching hides gives views across the famous Cley marshes. The oldest wildlife trust reserve in the country.
Holme Bird Observatory Reserve has hides which involve bird ringing and migration counts in spring and autumn and there are birdwatching guided tours by arrangement.
Pensthorpe Waterfowl Park and nature reserve is only 6miles from us and has a large collection of endangered and exotic birds in two hundred acres of walks and water gardens. The park has for the past two years hosted the BBC TV Springwatch programme. There is also a gift shop and the café is well worth a visit for the home made soup and Brie and bacon baguette!
Snettisham Reserve is one of the best locations to view waders which roost in their thousands at high tide on the shingle banks. The view of waders moving ahead of the tide at sunset is truly beautiful.
Titchwell Marsh has marsh harriers hunting over the reeds and winter sees the arrival of many ducks and geese.
Syderstone itself has many miles of attractive walks, bridle ways and footpaths through open countryside, fields and woods. There is also Syderstone common, which is home to the natterjack toads and other rare species.
